Why Japan Tops Every Traveller's Bucket List?

As a very fortunate person, I had an opportunity to spend some time in Japan last month. I have always been fascinated by the idea of Japan. When I posted pictures of Japan on my social media, I received many messages from friends saying, "I envy you", "You are living my dream", "Share the itinerary" etc. I always had this question in my head why Japan is on everyone's mind? This year I finally made it and had the first hand experience of Japan. I assume I returned with a partial answer to the question I had in my mind Why Japan tops the bucket list of all the travellers? Though it might take numerous visits to know in depth I still went with the purpose of digging some knowledgeable content for my readers along with having some good time.

A 7-day stay is not enough to define any place, forget Japan. But I roamed on the streets, used public transport as much as possible, got lost, and conversed with locals with or without translators. The idea was to catch the essence of the place. You can find tons of videos on YouTube with details about all the tourist places. I will also prepare an itinerary with all the attractions. But that is a topic for another day. Every country has tourist places. Then, what is so special about Japan that Westerners and Europeans are stepping on each other's feet on the busy streets of Japan. For now, Let's touch the spiritual side of Japan, shall we?

A Cultural Blend: Traditions and Modernity

Like any good traveller, I prepared well for the trip and took cues from friends and colleagues who had been to Japan before. Whenever I asked them how their trip was " It was amazing " was a common answer. And, then they listed all the activities I could do without wasting money. That's fair, the adventures, activities and sightseeing are important but no one really could answer what I wanted to know.

Nonetheless, I went on the expedition, did my research and tried to feel what was in the air(except atomic radiation). The factor that has been very significant in differentiating Japan from the rest of the world is "Respect". Now, I don't mean that you are not respected when you visit other countries. Every country has its culture and way of hospitality. But how smoothly and quickly Japan embraces you is commendable. You won't even realize how quickly you are going to blend in. However, people on the street might avoid making eye contact with you. Not because they are rude, but the language barrier is huge in Japan which is normal for any non-English speaking country.

From Japanese movies and shows, I had an idea about the concept of mutual respect in Japan. But my curious mind researched more instead of staring at people at the airport. To understand Japanese customs and rituals, it is important to understand the influences of Shintoism and Buddhism. Shinto, with its reverence for nature and "Kami"(spirits), fosters an appreciation for the natural world, while Buddhism emphasizes meditation and community. Numerous Temples and shrines are good to visit for pictures and to tick mark the things to do on your itinerary. But these shrines are perfect places for travellers to reflect on the enduring philosophies of Shintoism and Buddhism. This spiritual backdrop enriches the tourist experience. It illustrates how these beliefs intersect with everyday life in Japan. These customs fascinate travellers around the globe as these rituals are missing in the Western world.

In stark contrast to these ancient customs, Japan is also a hub of modernity characterized by cutting-edge technology, innovative fashion trends, and vibrant arts.
